love the rain!

Something so rare for us- the hard constant rains. They are necessary, as the Vata(dry) season is beginning to transition into the Kapha (wet, heavy) season. Use this time to nurture your body and spirit. Cleansing is important as the seasons shift, because we do too! Self massage (abhyanga) with some sesame or sunflower oil a.m. or p.m., a beautiful bath, and warm foods with more spice are beneficial to avoid the heaviness of the coming season. It’s okay to be inside for a short period of time. This allows us to be quiet, to read, to cook, to organize and think about direction. It is also the time to begin excercise and more movement. We flow with the transition of the seasons, so just go with it! Love yourself.. the world benefits from that more than you know!

Rebooting Your System 2010

What is the question almost everyone asks before the beginning of the New Year? Do I even have to tell you? Okay, it’s “So, what’s your new year resolution?” We have good intentions to eat better, exercise more, get busy at work, etc… All of those are great, but how long do they last? It starts out with a bang, and then burns out. The reason for this is simple: many times the good intentions are too restrictive or sudden and so they often times turn to disappointment in ourselves.
It takes discipline and understanding of our selves as individuals to truly make a lasting change. By discovering your constitution and present imbalance, your New Year Rebooting program will start you on the road to true lasting change without the yo-yo of new fangled diets and burn out of expecting too much from yourself too quickly. Each one of us has different needs, likes, dislikes.. We know what appeals to us and what we dread as far as exercise, eating, so let’s treat you differently than your friends and co- workers or what the hottest celebrity did to lose weight and feel great in one week! True change takes a little time, but what are you doing in the meantime? Be patient with the progress of the choice to introduce the small adjustments, because in the end these will truly become a part of who you are.
Understanding the principles of Ayurveda as they apply to you individually will bring more peace and health to you on every level of being: mental health, physical health, and spiritual health. Each affects the other, so we nurture our whole being to become a whole being.
Wishing Peace and Light in 2010
